Annotation: The article focuses on the problems of studying the relationship of students to the process of physical education at the initial stage of education at the university. The author considers this problem in the context of the decisive role of physical education of students in the formation of their motivation to engage in physical culture and a healthy lifestyle. The problem also reveals from the standpoint of physical culture of the individual. Physical culture is a part of universal culture, which is a type of social activity, social practice, which means that society recognizes such activity as useful and necessary for a person and creates conditions for its development. Indicators of the state of physical culture in society and the state as a whole are: the totality of material and spiritual values created for the physical improvement of people, their level of health and physical development, the degree of use of physical exercises in the education of the younger generation. However, throughout the world, there is a decrease in the status of physical culture in the educational process of students, deterioration of educational programs by the state and educational leadership, the number of physical education classes in the curriculum is reduced or replaced by courses of choice, or simply optional. Physical culture is considered as not so important subject as history and philosophy, etc. In this case, there is a misunderstanding the purpose and role of physical culture in the overall process aimed at bringing up a harmoniously developed person, striving for mental, moral and physical perfection. The role of motor activity in the prevention and reduction of various diseases is underestimated. This article analyzes the results of a survey of students in order to determine their relationship to the process of physical education and self-education.
