Annotation: The article is devoted to formation of patriotic student’s qualities in the higher education, solved today by modern Russian society. The solution of the problem is promoted by the organization of volunteer activity as integral component of educational process of higher educational institution. On the basis of the scientific literature, it is possible to reveal the definition of patriotism because it has the dual nature of the concept “patriotism”. The article reveals patriotic qualities of the personality, and the difference between the concepts of “patriotism” and “volunteering.” The article reveals the possibilities of the volunteer movement, its socially important potential in modern sociocultural conditions, examples of different types of volunteer activity in Kemerovo State University of Culture are given. The article considers the possibilities of the volunteer movement as one of students’ interaction in higher education which are accepted and approved by modern society with the people needing moral, psychological, material and activity support. This feature of volunteering includes the student of higher educational institution of culture in the process of implementation of voluntary initiatives including the patriotic contents. Thus, values and volunteering promote formation of patriotic, spiritual, moral, civil qualities and an opportunity to apply them in real everyday life. The article considers as well such key concepts as “patriotism,” “patriotic qualities,” “volunteering.” It pays attention to concrete activities, interaction with authorities in realization of voluntary initiatives of patriotic contents. Updating the importance of the research, the article presents the results of the sociological research conducted on the basis of Kemerovo State Institute of Culture. This research is directed to the relation of students of higher education to volunteer activity, the priority motives which are a basis of volunteering and also interrelation of the concepts “volunteer” and “patriot” and how these concepts are understood by modern youth. It is revealed that the problem of students’ inclusion of higher education institution of culture in volunteer activity is relevant in modern conditions, and the students themselves are very active in this activity. Most of the students who participated in a research see a direct connection between phenomena of “patriotism” and “volunteering” and are ready to join consciously in volunteer activity that allows to form effectively and purposefully patriotic qualities in students of higher education of culture.
