Annotation: Tourism is an important part of modern society. Museums as social institutions are playing the main role in identifying, preserving, studying and promoting the cultural heritage, designed to respond adequately to the challenges of our time and become more attractive to tourists. The author draws attention to the need for the development and improvement of cooperation between museums and tourism. In our country, a large number of provincial museums, and their main difference is a small number of genuine unique exhibits, since at all times rarities from all over the country flocked to the capital. The problem of leveling the capital and provincial museums can only be solved by raising the quality of the latter. Most regions do not solve this task independently. There is a need to form a federal target program for the development of local museums. A quarter of a century ago, Siberia was dominated by traditional historical and local history museums, and today there are many memorial, ethnographic museums, and even ecomuseums in Kemerovo region. At the same time, a characteristic pattern is seen: the more active authorities and business are engaged in the development of tourism, the more diverse the museum network becomes. Local museums and agencies need to joint their potential for extension of services, diversification of forms and methods of working with tourists, bringing financial opportunities in production of advertising the materials, joint activities. Based on the analysis of academic literature, documentary and statistical sources, the author examines tourism resources in museums in Altai Territory, identifies main problems and prospects of development of the museum tourism. Altai Territory has unique historical, cultural and natural resources for the development of all types of tourism. The Museum tourism is considered as a factor of territorial development, of both, museum and tourism.

Keywords: museum, museum resources, museum tourism, tourist resources.
