Annotation: From the standpoint of culturology, a characteristic of a representative set of sources for studying the image of museums is given in the article for the first time. The purpose of the article is to show the expediency of forming an interdisciplinary approach to the creation and analysis of a source base that reflects the phenomena and processes associated with the image of the museum. Attention is focused on the interdisciplinarity of the concept of image, the development of an interdisciplinary approach to its study, considering the information theory and the new research paradigm of the museum as a component of the documentary and communicative sector of culture. According to the author’s definition of the image of the museum not only constant groups of sources are considered, but also the dynamic resources of the museum associated with them (legal, financial, publicity resources). The collection of sources is presented by the types and methods of encoding information. It is emphasized in the article that while forming an interdisciplinary approach, one should consider the actively expanding space of technotronic documents and objectively evaluate the verbal content. Sources that were used and potential traditional written sources are structured (normative documents, records management, periodical press materials), the informative nature of narrative sources and museographic products are estimated. The effectiveness of the use of sign and behavioral sources is shown, based on author’s scientific and methodological developments. As the quintessence of the museum’s actual image in the global world its Internet resources are defined. In general, the application of an interdisciplinary approach to a representative source base can provide a deep scientific reflection that provides a development of such a phenomenon as the museum image.
