Annotation: The article is focused on a relatively new way of representing the poetic discourse which appeared in modern art recently and has been the subject of a discussion causing the great interest of Russian media-artists, poets, literary critics, as well as the wide public concerned with modern art. The purpose of the article is in revealing the factors, which contributed to developing the art form of poetic discourse representation and in analyzing historical and cultural foundations of the term “videopoetry” as well as specifying the area of its application. To resolve the goals mentioned, we have analyzed the talks given by the authors of the poetry video, considerations of the videopoetry festivals experts and the aesthetics and culture studies research focused on non-classic trends in XX-XXIst century art. We have thoroughly considered the studies of the authors who are researching the processes of social mediatization and decreasing popularity of poetry being performed as a part of scenic culture. Having analyzed modern art and culture, it was concluded that videopoetry appeared as a mixture of two artistic systems, cinema and poetry, which created its historical and cultural foundation. We have justified the reason for non-canonic form of poetry representation appearing, which happened to be the development of technically brand-new mass media. It encouraged the art to change from sound to visual image. We have identified the platforms presenting videopoetry projects and the potential space for implementing the educational and informative functions of this kind of art.
