Annotation: This article tells about forming and keeping the motivation in the process of teaching the piano in connection with attraction of American psychologist A. Maslow’s theory to the pedagogical process from the perspectives of academic motivation’s development and maintenance. The target of this study remains timely as learning process has become more concentrated on developing the technical skills and achieving some certain results, whereas the student’s personality is neglected. As a result, unmet needs reduce the child’s motivation level and learning capacities. During a research based on Maslow’s theory, an elaborated study has been undertaken. Special focus has been made on searching for the correlations among aspects of the theory. Based on the obtained results, each need has been considered from the perspectives of teaching the piano, that is: methods to detect a problem, solution approach, etc. Then the author draws some deductions based on the obtained results to demonstrate the meaning of the theory for successful teaching. For instance, in case of student’s deviant behavior, it is advised to reveal the most topical need of a kid and help him fill it. The importance of satisfying the basic needs, such as safety and physiology, is emphasized. Firm and trustworthy relationship between a teacher and a student is also important as it may contribute to benevolent working climate. To support student’s self-esteem, it is proposed to mark their achievements out, for example, by using an appropriate praise. It makes possible to fill cognitive and aesthetic needs via obtaining music knowledge. Consequently, further immersion into the music sphere may satisfy the student’s supreme need in self-actualization. Therefore, if the teacher considers some specific student’s features regarding the Maslow’s theory, it will have a positive effect on the academic motivation and help save their psychological and physical health. It will also promote harmonious development of a kid’s personality.
