Annotation: The article considers the psychological and pedagogical problem of forming the image of the future in the period of youth in the process of professional education. Today we live in a rapidly changing world, globalization, dynamism of information, and eclectic values. All this leads to disruption of the processes of personal development. In the sphere of vocational education, demands are made for the formation of a competent specialist, capable of being a strategist of his own professional and life path in general. But learning to construct the future to date has not become a special area of professional training for the future specialist and part of social practice. All this determines the urgency of studying the stated problem. The aim of the article is to highlight the most significant aspects of the problem of forming the image of the future and to designate the key prerequisites for the development of a program of psychological and pedagogical support of forming the image in the period of youth in the process of professional education. The analysis of philosophical-methodological, theoretical, methodical approaches, requirements for a professional made it possible to identify the most obvious aspects of the problem: shortcoming of pedagogical research, uncertainty of the system of concepts related to the ideas of the future. The expediency of applying the concept of “the image of the future” as a functional concept for studying the ideas about the future in youth is grounded. Some key principles for the development of the content and technological aspects of the psychological and pedagogical support program are outlined. The special significance of forming a constructive image of the future for a professional in the sphere of “Man-Man”, above all for the future teacher is emphasized.
