THE NEWSREEL AS HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE OF KUZBASS

Annotation: One of the most striking pages of world film history is the Soviet newsreel, which at some time was synonymous with film truth in the USSR. The article is devoted to the issues of documentary filmmaking in cultural and historical understanding, and focuses on the Kuzbass newsreel of the Soviet pre-war period in the mirror of screen documentaries of Siberia. The main task and theoretical significance of the work is to collect, systematize and identify the dominant trends of the main periods of filming the documentary-chronicle cinema in Siberia. Despite the relevance of the topic of a phenomenon of a chronicle-documentary film, the state of study of the Kuzbass newsreels’ history is very modest, scientific works on the definition of the place of a film chronicle in the cultural space of the country is also extremely small. Based on the review of the available literature, the authors come to the conclusion about the marginality of this trend in modern cultural and historical studies. The practical significance of the work lies in the possibility of using the number of provisions for further study of the problem of the devaluation of newsreels in Russia, and in understanding the Soviet experience of cultural construction. The subject of the study is trends in the development of newsreels in Siberia. The article is based on the materials of the books “The Cinema in Siberia. Essays on the History of an Early Siberian Movie (1896-1917)” V.A. Vatolin, “Films of memory” and “The Chronicles of Kuzbass” Y. Svetlakov. A theoretical base also represents the works of L.N. July and G.S. Progeco.
