Annotation: The forms of liturgical “recitative” found in the traditional Old Believer service (on the example of the communities of the Kemerovo region “popovskoe soglasie”) are considered in this paper. Various forms of recitative, based on different gradations of intoning types (such as speech, vocal, intermediate intoning), can be found in the liturgical practice of the Old Believers. Toned speech and the very vocal recitative seem to be the main forms among them. There are several types of liturgical “poglasitsa”: “formulnaya” (narrative), “psalmodicheskaya” and “osmoglasnaya”. Each of them has its own scope and is assigned to a specific text or group of texts. However, in practice this tradition is not always preserved and the individual manner of each reader comes to the fore. In this way the “poglasitsa” structure is simplified as much as possible. This area of questions is also discussed in the paper. Nevertheless, the form of the liturgical recitative works quite steadily and in some cases is used even in singing genres (that expands the range of texts read). The compositional foundations of the liturgical recitative are also persistently preserved in the liturgical practice of the Old Believers. All the chants were written by the author during the expedition work in the Kemerovo region and are given in the author’s transcript.
Keywords: liturgical practice of Old Believers, liturgical recitative, toned speech, poglasitsa, type of intonation.
