Annotation: In scientific discourse, the concept of “memory” is commonly associated with temporal characteristics; in particular, it refers to its stadial correlation in the synchronous and diachronic aspect considering the process of functioning the individual and society. Memory is one of the universal ways of transmitting the information of past generations for generations of the future. Discussions about the definition of the content of the concept of “cultural memory” are far from complete. Nevertheless, they demonstrate some features of the aspects of consideration of history and formation of cultural memory. The article analyzes individual approaches to the study of the phenomena of “cultural” and “historical” memory in domestic and foreign humanities, an attempt is made to identify key aspects of the content of these concepts. The result of the comparative research process was the conclusion that there is currently no single concept of cultural and historical memory in foreign and domestic human sciences, and the phenomenon itself is interdisciplinary in nature. It determines the vector of analysis of phenomena and processes functioning in a scientific discourse that has reached a certain theoretical and methodological level. The key objects of research were various types of collective memories. Unfolding in the late 20th century global processes have identified the problematic field of preservation and interpretation of cultural memory as the lead for a whole complex of social and human sciences. This is confirmed by the presence of a number of scientific works devoted to the study of the cultural and historical memory of domestic and foreign authors, among which are the works of J. Assman, M. Halbvaks, A. Confino, P. Connerton, M.Y. Lotman, E.A. Ivanshina, etc.

Keywords: memory, cultural memory, historical memory, frame (border) of memory, “text,” “oblivion.”
