Annotation: Abstract: The article is devoted to the conceptual understanding of actual museum attribution practices in the context of the process of development and management of museum collections. The relevance of the topic is associated with the search for new “entry points” into the existing algorithm for studying museum objects and collections for the implementation of scientific, exhibition, and educational functions of the museum. The purpose of this work is defined as identifying promising research directions in the study of the actual identity of a museum object. Attribution in this process is considered as a specifically museum universal system of analysis of museum objects, based on specific techniques and methods that cross the boundaries between disciplines and oscillate between academic discourse and cultural space. Entering alternative ways of studying museum objects outside the established academic field entails the formation of new vectors for the implementation of policy and management of museum collections. The concept of creating a “subjective historiography” of a museum object is proposed for consideration as a different approach to the study of a museum object. The necessity of including in the study of the object actors from the “home” life of the object in the person of creators, collectors, owners is applied. Introduced into the subject field of cultural studies the method of «konkretisation» and “radical empathy”, developed in Western museology, as a means of studying a museum object outside of museum discourse. As a result of the study, it is proposed to use the concepts of preserving artifacts “ex situ” and “in situ” to delimit two basic states of an object: an object of museum significance and a museum object concept, in order to update the diversity of ways to study museum collections.

Keywords: museum object, attribution, preservation and research of museum collections, development and management of museum collections, «ex situ», «in situ», subjective historiography.
