Annotation: The article deals with the transformation of the national character of the Chinese. This problem is the subject of discussions in political, academic circles, among the creative part of nation and is verbalized in the national ideas of the People's Republic of China, in the novels of new Chinese literature. The study of this issue based on the material of the prose of the leading science fiction writers of the People's Republic of China Han Song and Liu Cixin is relevant, as they immerse the reader in simulated situations, allowing them to experience an alternative development of events. The hypothesis of the study is that the gradual transformation of the basic personality in the Chinese national community is necessary for the successful implementation of this national idea, which has a long-term character. Using the descriptive method, we analyze how the problem of the "sick body of the nation" outlined by Lu Xun is developed in the works of Chinese science fiction writers of the "New Wave". The possibility of modeling the situation and a different interpretation of meanings is in the arsenal of science fiction, which successfully reveals the problem of transformation of national character in three designated aspects: the traditional desire to prioritize the functioning of the social system over the rights of the individual, the preservation of inertia of national thinking in the era of globalization, the specific limitations of national horizons, expressed in opposite trends: excessive reverence for the achievements of Chinese civilization and at the same time, in a modest assessment of the individual's contribution to its prosperity.
Keywords: the concept of the "Chinese Dream", Chinese science fiction, national character.
