ETHNOMODERNISM AS A NEW DIRECTION IN JEWELRY ART IN KAZAKHSTAN IN THE 21ST CENTURY

Annotation: In the realm of contemporary jewelry art in Kazakhstan, a distinctive trend has emerged, commonly recognized by experts as ethnomodernism. Notable figures within this movement include metal artists Serzhan Bashirov, Ilya Kazakov, and Ikram Rafikov. This article focuses on a comprehensive analysis of their creative endeavors, seamlessly melding the traditions of Kazakh zergery with modern innovative solutions, encompassing both content and technical aspects. The primary objective of this study is to examine the jewelry art of 21st-century Kazakhstan as a prominent facet of plastic ethnomodernism. Drawing on the outcomes of field research, which incorporates interviews and discussions with contemporary jewelers, this approach not only enhances our comprehension of ethnomodernism in jewelry but also imparts valuable practical insights for emerging artists, jewelers, and designers. The initial segment of the article delves into the stylistic features of traditional Kazakh jewelry art. Conversely, the aforementioned artists dedicate the subsequent section to a detailed exploration of specific works. The latter part of the article extensively explores the distinctive characteristics of ethnomodernism within the creations of Kazakhstani masters. By analyzing selected examples of jewelry, it becomes possible to discern unique forms, symbols, and technical solutions that intricately weave together tradition and innovation. The author contends that a meticulous examination of their work will enable a deeper understanding of stylistic nuances, innovative approaches, and symbolic content, thereby reflecting the ongoing dialogue between tradition and modernity.
