Annotation: The article contains the results of author’s research into the system of Russian music therapy ed-ucation focused on the participation of music therapy in the process of socialization and education of children with disabilities. It is reported that knowledge about the unique healing properties of musical art has a long history, but received serious scientific understanding only in the 20th century. Since the 1990s, music therapy tools and technologies have found natural and profound application in the field of correctional pedagogy and habilitation of children with special needs. Based on the given facts and examples, the author comes to the conclusion that domestic music therapy, despite wide recognition in scientific circles and the use of specialists in various fields of knowledge - medicine, psychology, pedagogy, musicology, does not have a generally accepted methodology and needs in increasing the methodological and methodical levels. The problem is aggravated by the fact that music therapy educa-tion in the Russian Federation today remains in the status of an additional one and is carried out by a few non-state institutions, mainly in Moscow and St. Petersburg. As an example of the successful use of means and methods of music therapy in the habilitation process, the activities of the Rehabilitation Center for Children and Adolescents with Disabilities in the Novosibirsk Academic Town are cited. Some features of the author's pedagogical concept of the center's creator - musician, composer, and innovative teacher A.I. Borozdin (1937–2021) are presented, including a complex polysensory effect on the brain of a sick child, variability in forms of classes regardless of diagnosis, and the use of one’s own musical compositions in classes.
