Annotation: The game as a way of functioning in a culture and possibility of transforming the life reality is considered in this article. Seeing the game as activity proceeds according to certain rules in a certain created reality with its own space-time continuum, its main functions and necessary conditions are revealed. Playing as a free activity of a subject not only establishes connections between various elements of being, but in many respects transforms them, significantly changing the player himself. We study the process of sublimation as the realization of unfulfilled opportunities, as well as the transformation of energies into more sublime, socially significant ones. Theatre art as the most adequate manifestation of the game nature in the culture is represented. The similarities and differences of the theatre as stage playing and children’s play are indicated. The phenomenon of “image of oneself” in the game as a social role is discovered and it is noted that by means of the game the boundaries of stereotypes are revealed, which makes possible to significantly expand the horizons of one’s own beliefs. The fact that the game can consciously change attitude towards facts, events and phenomena because of which an individual’s consciousness and behavior change is argued. The authors reveal how the game transforms reality describing the conditions in violation of which the game is interrupted. Justifying the reality of the player’s feelings, the importance of a conscious exit from the game is noted. The article highlights the game element in culture as the basis in a creative approach to life reality and focuses on the importance of what the game is used for as means.
